Today, we will be featuring Roy & Adhlakha’s gorgeous traditional wedding. Bengali Hindu weddings, like most other Indian weddings, are a blend of traditional customs and rituals with a touch of modernity. These weddings are rich in color and exuberance that lead to reunion of family members and old friends. Signifying the beginning of a new journey not just for the couple but for the entire clan, Roy & Adhlakha’s is definitely one for the books! Without further ado, let us voyage upon their glorious photos by Fabio & Adri Photography because those who have had the good fortune of witnessing a Bengali wedding from start to end would surely agree that it is a visual delight and an fascinating experience!
Aninidita wore a red and gold custom saree, complimented by lots of jewelry, and a mukut – a ceremonial bridal crown. Aadhar wore a traditional gold Sherwani and a topor.
The Bengali Hindu ceremony took place at the Edge Lounge, where a clash of contemporary and tradition combined for a beautiful celebration. Throughout the various rituals, the couple commits to remain faithful in front of the Fire God, the Agni. They walk seven steps together around the fire committing to marriage vows about their future life together.
The reception room featured rustic timber and vaulted round ceiling and was surrounded by windows. This magnificent place lined with columns is the Valencia Ballroom at JW Marriott. Golds and oranges stayed as the color palette and were now mixed in with pink uplights by Jovani Linens.
The Table Markers
A simple yet traditional way to personalize your table arrangements are through table markers. They are still a wonderful idea to keep the guest well taken cared for. Using glittered cards for these table markers incorporates itself to the gold and orange theme.
The Sweet Course
Traditional Indian food was served, including live stations. These customary Indian themed cakes are lavish. Known for their sophisticated designs, Rolling in Dough truly made masterpieces with these traditional desserts.
Extra Special Details
These Indian weddings are rich with customs and traditions. One of these customary rituals are their dancing. Anindita’s niece performed a classical dance as an evening opener, followed by a live music by Dhruvit Shah. The dance floor stayed alive through the night as most guests hit the dance floor.
Heed this Advice
As for blending Indian and American traditions, the most common Western tradition I’ve seen adopted at Indian weddings in America is the bride walking down the aisle to the altar on her father’s arm – even if the wedding ceremony itself is Indian. If you can shorten the length of the ceremony by selecting just a few rituals that are special to you, then it is simple enough to fit into the “seat your guests and walk down an aisle” format of a Western wedding. ~ Fabio Barbon/Photographer
