White Laces And Deep Reds

From the New York concrete jungle to the North Carolina blue skies, Kate was nothing but thankful that she decided to take on some change. And so, under the spectacular NC, Kate and Matt met. Fast forward to their wedding day, Kate wanted the fullness of the purple, deep red, and deep orange as the colors of their wedding. Her bridesmaids and Matt’s groomsmen had dark blues for their dresses and suits – all of which contrasted with her pure white and lacy wedding gown. Under the crisp fall air, they exchanged their vows and their I do’s. So, here’s a fist bump for the classic and cool couple – to Kate and Matt!

The Album Story

After growing up and graduating from college in upstate New York, Kate decided it was time for a change of scenery. She packed up and moved to North Carolina. On her first day as a North Carolinian she met Matt and the rest is history! Our choice to be married at The 1927 Lake Lure Inn stemmed from our love of the North Carolina mountains and the special times we had spent in the mountains, including Matt’s proposal in December 2012! Knowing our families would be coming from near and far, we wanted a place where everyone could be together and when we happened upon the Inn the nostalgic and historical feel captivated us and we knew it would be the perfect venue. The antique décor of the historical Inn only added to the vintage feel. We wanted to capture the explosion of color that symbolizes fall in the mountains and this was accomplished by using a variety of dark reds, oranges and purples within the bouquets and the centerpieces. Centerpieces varied from tall and dramatic to simple, yet elegant floating flowers.

This album speaks to the elegance of Kate & Matt’s tastes, but it also had a down home feel that could only be created in the place they loved the most – the mountains and Lake Lure, the home of Dirty Dancing! Kate dressed and prepared herself in the “Patrick Swayze” suite and the feel of the wedding itself harkens back in some small way to that film. The story is not just of love, but of strong family bonds from NY to NC, a love of the mountains and of the place where Matt proposed.

Wedding Outfit Inspiration

The setting of the wedding provided much of the inspiration. Kate and Matt wanted deep reds and oranges, as seen in the bouquet and roses. The dark blue of the bridesmaids dresses and groomsmen helped tie in the Carolina blue sky with the colors of fall and the mountains of North Carolina.

The Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Projects

If so, can you describe them in detail? Some of our DIY projects included making table assignment cards that matched Matt’s tie, as well as a guest book from our engagement photos.

Favorite Part of the Day

Near the end of the reception the DJ played the theme song from Dirty Dancing “I’ve had the time of my life” and it brought the house down. But that was only the start! Outside was a fireworks show that was second to none! The combination of the crisp fall air, the beauty of the Inn, the legendary music and the fireworks show was absolutely sensational! It is one of those seminal moments that will never be forgotten!

Highlights From the Ceremony and the Reception

The day was absolutely perfect. Guests were brought by trolley car from the Inn to the ceremony location across the street on Lake Lure. Blue and sunny skies paired with the backdrop of the mountains made for a beautiful background. After the ceremony, we continued the celebration with a cocktail hour and dinner. The grand piano in the lobby of the inn provided the perfect place for a dessert bar that was filled with a few our favorite things, including our wedding cake. We danced the night away on the veranda outside overlooking the pool.

The Theme

We wanted a rustic and vintage yet elegant feel to the wedding. Our florist and wedding planner accomplished this by incorporating a variety of special touches such as crates and frames filled with flowers, as well as vases with a burlap and lace overlay.

A Memorable Moment

Guests were brought by trolley from the hotel to the ceremony site. The interesting thing about the ceremony site was the incredible vistas that surrounded the guests. Chimney Rock is visible, as is Lake Lure and the Lake Lure Inn. Kate made a long emotional walk from the trolley with her dad, into the arms of Matt! It was a stirring moment that brought more than a few tears. Two of Kate & Matt’s closest friends gave short speeches that brought smiles to their faces and tears of joy to Kate.
